MPSDFS Delivers More Than Five Hundred Thousand Dollars In Home Repair And Disaster Relief Grants To Residents In The Sangre Grande Area

The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services, through the National Social Development Programme (NSDP), on Saturday, March 7, 2026, distributed Home Repair and Disaster Relief Grant assistance to thirty-eight (38) households within the Sangre Grande region, representing one hundred and seventeen (117) beneficiaries, at a total cost of five hundred and fifty-five thousand and thirty-one dollars ($555,031.00) to the benefit of vulnerable households.

Fourteen (14) households, representing thirty-seven (37) beneficiaries, received Home Repair Grants valued at three hundred and fifty thousand, six hundred and sixty-three dollars ($350,663.00) to assist with the restoration and rehabilitation of their homes.

A further twenty-four (24) households, representing eighty (80) beneficiaries, received Disaster General Assistance Grants valued at two hundred and four thousand, three hundred and sixty-eight dollars ($204,368.00) to help families recover from the immediate impacts of disaster-related damage and to assist with the restoration and rehabilitation of their homes.

The Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services commended the work of the Ministry’s staff in treating with the clients’ needs and disbursing the aid, stating that, “behind these numbers are real stories, families who faced uncertainty, parents who worried about the safety of their children, and individuals who wondered how they would rebuild what had been lost. Today’s support represents not just financial assistance, but reassurance that your Government stands with you during these challenging moments.”

Minister Mohit stated that for Fiscal Year 2026, four million dollars ($4,000,000.00) has been allocated to sustain and expand these interventions so that even more families can receive the support necessary to repair and rebuild their homes.

Between May and September 2025, four hundred and three (403) household members benefited from one hundred and twenty-two (122) Home Repair Grants, at a total cost of one million, eight hundred and seventeen thousand, seven dollars and five cents ($1,817,007.05). Further, between October 2025 and February 28th, 2026, eight hundred and one (801) household members are set to benefit from two hundred and fifty (250) Home Repair Grants, at three million, six hundred and two thousand, nine hundred and thirty-eight dollars ($3,602,938.00), which were approved and are currently in the process of being distributed.

The Ministry continues to prioritise support for the most vulnerable citizens by implementing responsive social protection programmes that not only ease immediate hardship but also lay the foundation for long-term stability, resilience, and empowerment.
