MYDNS And TCL Launch Agri Project in Mayo

Twenty seven farmers from the Mayo Community received access to one acre parcels of land through a proposed lease arrangement with the Ministry of Youth Development and National Service (MYDNS) and the Trinidad Cement Limited (TCL).

On Wednesday, Phase One of the Mayo Community Agricultural Project (MCAP) was launched.

Minister of Youth Development and National Service Foster Cummings said discussions were held with TCL to cultivate 40 acres of land in the Mayo community to facilitate a minimum of forty small-scale farming operations for residents of Mayo and environs.

He said the Project is consistent with Pillar One and Six of the National Youth Policy, 2020 to 2025.

General Manager of TCL Guillermo Rojo De Diego said it was a huge honour to be part of a project that is building a better future for generations to come.

The acquisition of this land will improve the community’s food security, employment levels, and healthy social interaction in a manner that is formalized and economically sustainable.

Minister Cummings said he is currently in discussion with a group in South Trinidad to launch similar initiatives.
