The High Commission of India and the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for cultural Co-operation hosted an Indian Arrival Day Cultural Show in collaboration with NALIS.
The show, being held at NALIS for the second time, featured a performance by a cultural dance troupe from India.
The Brij Lok Manch Folk Troupe from Uttar Pradesh in India, led by Shri Sanjay Kumar put on a show to remember as they wowed members of the public and the Diplomatic Corps.
The audience was left captivated by the amazing display of Indian talent and dance flair.
The show, in its second year, was a cultural collaboration that Paula Greene, the Executive Director of NALIS, said her organisation was pleased to be a part of.
Greene noted TT has an enduring relationship with India as she pointed to the lasting influence of that country on Trinidad and Tobago’s culture.
“Ask those who relish the taste of roti, doubles, dhal, kurma, and other Indian delicacies original or reconstructed to our context. Those who sing Bollywood songs or watch Bollywood movies, all cultural contributions which form part of our everyday life.”
High Commissioner of India to Trinidad and Tobago Dr Pradeep Singh Rajpurohit meanwhile praised NALIS for their co-operation and assured that the relationship will continue.
He revealed the show was intentionally held at the NALIS outdoor amphitheatre to give people in North Trinidad an opportunity to experience authentic Indian culture.
“There was an observation that Indian cultural troupes come and go to South and central so we tried to bridge that gap and last year we had the performance and this is the 2nd time and this will be a continued feature in time to come that whenever they come we come to Nalis. this beautiful place.”
He expressed his gratitude to the various stakeholders and noted the troupe will continue to perform at various events leading up to Indian Arrival Day.
“I wish to commend the management of Nalis team for their excellent work in bldg bridges and strengthening people to people ties. also thank ministry of culture for extending local hospitality who will e here and perform all across TT in coming days culminating in Indian arrival day.”
