There is support for an appeal by the Hindu Women’s Organisation (HWO) for the government to amend the Hindu Marriage Register.
The initial appeal was made by the President of the HWO, Kamla Tewarie, who is asking for the bride’s profession to be listed on marriage certificates.
Chairman of the National Council for Indian Culture (NCIC) Surujdeo Mangaroo, speaking exclusively to TTT News, said he is in full support of the call.
“I wish to lend support to the call made by the Hindu Women’s Association. The request highlights legitimate concerns that merit serious consideration. Addressing it through an inclusive, uniformed, and voluntary framework ensures that progress and gender recognition are achieved without discrimination, reinforcing equal treatment across all religious communities whilst strengthening the integrity of marriage registration systems.”
