Cultural icon and former Member of Parliament, the late Hans Hanoomansingh, is being honoured by the National Council for Indian Culture (NCIC) for his enduring contributions to national development and the preservation of Indo-Trinidadian heritage.
NCIC Board Member Sahadeo Partap highlighted Hanoomansingh’s remarkable journey, noting that he rose from humble beginnings to become a powerful voice in culture, media, and public service.
Mr. Partap said Mr. Hanoomansingh’s lifelong dedication to storytelling, community upliftment, and cultural advocacy cemented his legacy as an inspirational figure whose impact continues to be felt across the nation.
Mr. Hanoomansingh was awarded the Hummingbird Gold Medal in 1990 in recognition of his long and distinguished service to culture and broadcasting. According to Mr. Partap, he devoted much of his life to preserving Indian culture and elevating public understanding of the Hindu religion.
Mr. Partap said Mr. Hanoomansingh personally travelled across the island, meeting with Hindu temples and engaging village communities to build support for and promote the Divali Nagar. Mr. Partap noted that the Nagar is now celebrated throughout the Indian diaspora — a testament to the dedication and vision of a man committed to uplifting Indian culture.
