The North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA) successfully completed major electrical upgrade works at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) this weekend.
The installation of the new replacement transformer on the electrical grid, in addition to its currently existing transformer, was undertaken with the aim of reducing and mitigating any possible risks that could arise from critical power failure or electrical loss that could otherwise leave the facility vulnerable.
To ensure patient safety and continuity of care, the NCRHA developed a comprehensive plan of action, supported by extensive contingency measures, which minimized disruptions to essential services during the works.
Clinic appointments and elective surgeries previously set for the period were rescheduled and critical radiological services such as CT scans, X-rays, MRIs, and ultrasounds were absorbed at the Arima General Hospital & Mt. Hope Women’s Hospital. Kudos to the clinical teams, engineering teams, transport teams, biomedical team, administrative staff and executive management for ensuring a smooth process with no operational interruptions for patients.
The successful completion of these works has restored and strengthened the NCRHA’s capacity to deliver quality healthcare services under any circumstance.
The Board of Directors and Chairman, Dr. Tim Gopeesingh, extended heartfelt thanks and congratulations to the hardworking multidisciplinary team that brought the project to completion.
“Our staff went above and beyond to get this done, and we are grateful for their effort, expertise and dedication. This project a testament to our commitment as an RHA to building capacity and ensuring safe, high-quality service for our patients,” Chairman Gopeesingh shared, during his visit to the facility over the period.
This upgrade is just one step in a series of structured improvements the NCRHA will be rolling out in the near future with the aim of not only improving hospital infrastructure but also enhancing the overall patient care experience.
