New Opposition Senator Appointed Following John-Bates Departure

Senator Janelle John-Bates, an Opposition Senator currently under investigation by the Privileges Committee, was formally removed from the Senate on Friday.

President of the Senate Wade Mark read a statement from President Christine Kangaloo, informing the Senate that she had revoked Senator John-Bates’ appointment following advice from Opposition Leader Penelope Beckles-Robinson.

“Declare the seat of you, Janelle John-Bates to be vacant with effect from the 5th of June 2026.”

The senate president also presided over the swearing in of Senator John Bates’ replacement.

“Acting in accordance with the advice of the Leader of the Opposition do hereby appoint you, Margaret Satya Rose as a senator.”
