The Brian Lara Promenade Police Post was launched today to bring an extra layer of safety and comfort to the capital city.
Superintendent Glen Charles of the Port of Spain City Police told TTT News that both business owners and the public should no longer feel intimidated about coming into the capital city.
He said they have strategically separated the promenade into two zones, which will see visible police coverage round the clock.
“We will also see police on horses. The Mounted Branch will be coming, along with the canine unit and other police officers. We will have mobile patrols around the vicinity. We are concentrating on all the banks and all the business places downtown to bring visibility, calmness, and security for all the users of the city.”
Mayor of Port of Spain Chinua Alleyne said the Port of Spain City Council took a strategic investment to enhance safety and security in the capital city.
He stated that there are plans to construct a police post on the eastern end of the promenade early in the new year.
“Our vision for the city, the city must be clean, the city must be safe and the city must be orderly, and so this investment today, this police post on the Brian Lara Promenade, is in order to achieve just that. We are very happy to continue to work with the city police service to work very closely with the T&T Police Service, the T&T Defence Force, all other stakeholders in national security.”
