NGC Concludes 2026 Undergraduate Internship Programme

The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) successfully concluded its 2026 Undergraduate Internship Programme, on Friday 14th August. Forty-four interns participated in a restructured six-week initiative designed to provide real-world experience and meaningful learning opportunities for Trinidad and Tobago’s future professionals.

Over the course of the programme, the interns gained valuable exposure to the professional working environment through hands-on project assignments, mentorship from experienced professionals, practical workplace learning and field visits to NGC’s energy installations. They experienced firsthand what it means to contribute to an organisation that plays a critical role in the country’s energy sector. In addition to their departmental assignments, interns participated in a series of developmental workshops covering financial literacy; energy conservation and sustainability; conflict resolution; workplace professionalism and interview skills.

These sessions were designed to equip participants with the knowledge and competencies needed to transition confidently into their future careers.

Several interns gave feedback on their experiences at NGC. Kiran Kangalee an Energy Engineering student at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) shared his thoughts. “NGC has shown me that engineering is not only about technical knowledge, but also about collaboration, communication, and finding innovative solutions that create value for both industry and society.”

Mechanical Engineering student Kirstin John, spent her internship supporting the work of NGC’s Technical Services Group. Reflecting on the past few weeks, Kirstin highlighted that, “NGC has shown me that innovation, strategic investment, and operational excellence can have an impact beyond a single organisation, contributing to the development of Trinidad and Tobago’s energy industry and the country’s overall growth.”

Chelsea Charles was given the opportunity to work with NGC’s Operations Group, allowing her to experience firsthand how she can apply the knowledge she has gained from pursuing a degree in Chemistry and Computer Science. As she continues her studies, Chelsea said, “NGC has given me valuable practical experience, a stronger understanding of industrial chemistry, and a greater appreciation for the professionals who work behind the scenes to ensure safe and efficient energy operations.”

The closing event saw 12 groups representing various divisions, presenting the projects they worked on, the insights they gained, and recommendations arising from their internship experience. Addressing the interns, Mr. Edmund Subryan, President (Ag.), reminded students that academic qualifications are only one part of the equation for success.

“While degrees can open many doors, it is your attitude, work ethic, and commitment that determine what happens after those doors are opened. Be open to learning and do not be afraid that you do not have all the answers. There is a Winston Churchill quote, ‘Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts.’ Learn from your mistakes and
continue striving to improve.”

Chairman Gerald I. Ramdeen praised the interns for their enthusiasm and contributions throughout the programme, sharing his respect for the way the students challenged themselves and contributed fresh perspectives. Chairman Ramdeen encouraged the interns to think boldly about their future.

“We all have a responsibility to nurture the talents of our young people because our human capital is the greatest resource of this country. Trinidad and Tobago stands on the cusp of a transformative era, with exciting developments creating unprecedented opportunities for the next generation. You are in a unique position to be part of that journey and help shape the country’s future. This internship is more than an opportunity to gain work experience; it is an investment in Trinidad and Tobago’s leaders of tomorrow. Dream without limits and never underestimate your potential.”

The 2026 Undergraduate Internship Programme reflects NGC’s continued commitment to youth development, education, and the cultivation of future leaders who will contribute to the sustainable growth and progress of Trinidad and Tobago.
