One person is dead and another injured following a police-involved shooting in Laventille on Monday.
Via a media release, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) confirmed that just before 11am on Monday, officers responded to intelligence received regarding armed men gathering in the vicinity of Mc Shine Lands.
The TTPS said officers responded to the report and encountered two suspects who were armed with firearms. The suspects confronted the officers after being told to surrender, following which officers fired at both suspects. The men were taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where one was pronounced dead on arrival, and the other was listed in critical condition under police guard.
Four illegal firearms were recovered from the scene.
Following the incident, Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro reiterated his earlier warnings to criminal elements to desist from challenging police officers.
