One man was killed and a shotgun seized during a police-involved shooting incident which occurred in the Eastern Division yesterday morning.
Reports indicate that officers of the Mayaro Criminal Investigations Department (CID), received information of a man armed with a gun in the Guayaguayare district, around 2am, on Monday 27th October, 2025.
On arrival at the location, the officers observed a man run into a wooden structure and retrieve an object that appeared to be a firearm from under a bed.
The man is alleged to have pointed the object at the officers and several clicking sounds were then heard. The officers gave the man verbal commands to put down the weapon, but he did not comply.
In keeping with the Use of Force Policy, the officers discharged their firearms in the direction of the man, who was hit about the body.
The wounded man was taken to the Mayaro Health Facility for treatment, where he subsequently died. He has since been identified as Ainsley Glenn Gonzales of Mayaro.
One sawed off shotgun was recovered from the scene.
Investigations are ongoing into the above incident.
Meanwhile, in the Northern Division, Task Force officers conducted an exercise in the La Horquetta district between 6 pm and 9 pm, on Sunday 26th October, 2025.
During the exercise, the officers searched the home of a 27-year-old male suspect which resulted in the discovery of 1.175 kilogrammes of cannabis.
The exercise was coordinated by Snr. Supt. Maynard-Wilson, Supt. Mc Kenzie, ASP Pitt and spearheaded by Insp. Gadar.
Investigations are ongoing.
