The heightened police presence in Port of Spain will continue throughout the Christmas season and straight into Carnival 2026.
On Tuesday, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service continued its Operation Festive Shield “12 Days of Community Outreach” with Blue Christmas in the City.
Collaborating with the Port of Spain City Corporation for their Christmas in D Square event, the executive arms of the Police Service walked through downtown Port of Spain on Tuesday, interacting with members of the public.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Suzette Martin told TTT News that the initiative goes well beyond Christmas.
“Our initiative doesn’t stop at Christmas, but it ends in Carnival, on the 23rd of February 2026. So we have officers, they will be on patrol. There will be foot patrols, mobile patrols, and we are here for police presence, partnership, and protection.”
DCP Martin is encouraging members of the public to do their part to help make Trinidad and Tobago safer by sharing information on crime and criminal activity with the police.
She also gave advice for people visiting the capital city during the hectic Christmas period.
“We ask persons not to have so much cash on them but they can more use their bank cards and additionally, don’t come to Port of Spain with all your jewellery because that’s an issue in the city that we are working on at this time. The police, we are here to support and to protect the citizens, so any assistance needed, we are here. Just reach out to us and one of the officers will gladly assist those persons.”
