Opposition Leader Urges Citizens To Be A ‘Light’ In Their Communities

Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles-Robinson has reflected on this year’s Divali Nagar theme, Loka Sangraha – “Welfare of the World” – during her remarks at the event on Thursday.

Mrs. Beckles-Robinson noted that Trinidad and Tobago has long been celebrated as unique for its cultural diversity, resilience and community spirit – a true reflection of the Loka Sangraha.

“Just as every deya burns brighter against the night, so too will our people rise with renewed faith, creativity, and unity of purpose. I believe in the potential of our youth, in the wisdom of our elders, and in the compassion of our citizens. Together we can build a Trinidad and Tobago that truly reflects Loka Sangraha, a nation where prosperity is shared, justice is real, and hope burns eternally bright.”

Mrs. Beckles-Robinson encouraged the audience to reflect on the spirit of Divali and what Mother Lakshmi represents: light over darkness and good over evil, for the continued upliftment of communities.

“As we stand tonight, bathed in the light of thousands of deyas, let us ask ourselves, what kind of light do I bring into the world? Am I a light of kindness or a shadow of indifference? Do I build bridges or do I build walls? Let each of us commit tonight to being a light in our communities, a light that uplifts the poor, comforts the lonely, and unites the divided.”
