PDP Backs Farley Augustine Ahead Of THA Election

The Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) has endorsed Tobago People’s Party Political Leader Farley Augustine ahead of the THA Elections on January 12th, 2026.

After months of silence on the party’s intentions for the upcoming Tobago House of Assembly elections, PDP Leader Watson Duke broke his silence during a Press Conference at the party’s Scarborough headquarters on Monday, voicing support for Mr. Augustine, whom he described as “family.”

“As bad as Farley is, doesn’t answer his phone sometimes. Tell you one thing and do a next thing sometimes, he is still family, and we have to stick together until we get it right. So I said to him when he called me recently. I said, ‘Boy, look, I hear you. Let me sleep on it.’ I slept on it, I rolled on it, I prayed on it, but I say you cannot abandon family under no circumstances. So I am here to tell the public today that Farley has my support.”

In 2021, the PDP won the THA election, but in 2022, after a disagreement, Mr. Augustine and 15 other members of the THA Executive resigned from the party and served as independents. Then in 2023, Mr. Augustine established the TPP.

Mr. Duke, who held the Roxborough/Argyle seat, remained mum on whether the PDP would be contesting any seats in the upcoming election. He added that a coalition was not being formed with the TPP and emphasised that it is about supporting Mr. Augustine.

“Farley and Watson Duke, we are one. We will always be one. We may have gotten our own disagreements, called each other names. He call me names, I call him back name. That’s family business. That’s family business, but at the end of the day, Tobago is our interest, and we will be supporting him in this election, and I promise you all when we hit the ground, we are bringing home 15 seats. Nothing for the former Prime Minister.”

The PDP Leader also did not indicate whether the PDP would be joining the TPP’s campaign activities. However, he said his party’s supporters will be showing full support for Mr. Augustine.

“We will be going in the highways and byways, the nooks and the crannies. We will be looking for the forgotten people. Those who have been alienated. Those who have been marginalised and sidelined.”

Mr. Duke stressed that Mr. Augustine will be held accountable and is expected to be truthful.
