Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC has congratulated Soca artiste Machel Montano on capturing a historic 12th Road March title with his hit song “Encore.”
In a statement, the Prime Minister described the victory as “a monumental achievement that further cements his place among the giants of our culture.”
She highlighted that Montano’s win surpasses the legendary Lord Kitchener, whose contributions helped shape the foundation of Trinidad and Tobago’s music.
“It is a testament to years of hard work, discipline, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to excellence every time he steps onto a stage.”
She also praised Montano for his mentorship of younger artistes.
“What makes this accomplishment even more inspiring is the way Machel continues to uplift others—mentoring young talent, sharing the spotlight, and creating opportunities for the next generation to dream boldly and perform proudly. That spirit of unity and mentorship is what keeps our culture alive and thriving.”
The Prime Minister also extended congratulations to other top performers, including Aaron ‘Voice’ St. Louis, who placed second with “Cyah Behave,” and Ian ‘Bunji Garlin’ Alvarez, who earned third place with “Road Man.”
She said, “Your music continues to energise and inspire the nation. As a lifelong lover of our music, I am deeply proud of our Trinbagonian artistes who keep flying the flag of Trinidad and Tobago high – creating moments of joy, unity, and celebration through sound. Our culture is strong. Our talent is world-class. And the future of our music shines bright.”
