PM Defends Police Commissioner’s Extension

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley is defending Cabinet’s decision to extend the tenure of Police Commissioner Erla Harewood-Christopher by one year.

In early May, the Ministry of National Security, via a media release, confirmed the extension for the period May 15th 2023 to May 24th 2024. It stated that Mrs. Harewood-Christopher attained the compulsory retirement age of 60 years on May 15th, and this move was done to extend the years of service.

Responding to a question from the Opposition in the Lower House on Wednesday, Prime Minister Rowley defended the extension of service, noting that the criteria for assessment was not changed when she was appointed a few months ago.
