Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says the government is committed to enacting legislation to entrench the position of Tobago as an equal autonomous partner of Trinidad and Tobago.
Speaking in the Lower House, the Prime Minister said the government, after consultation, will bring to Parliament the Constitution Amendment Bill 2026 and the Tobago Self-Government Bill 2026.
“We shall move expeditiously to analyse the provisions of legislation drafted previously and in consultation with the Honourable Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly we will move to draft an efficient law, which clearly establishes Tobago’s place in the sun as an equal partner in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago side by side, side by side.”
