The government has announced that India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be awarded Trinidad and Tobago’s highest national award, the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
The Office of the Prime Minister said the award will serve as a tribute to the nation’s appreciation for Prime Minister Modi’s outstanding contribution to the development of Trinidad and Tobago, and service to the region and wider international community.
It hailed Prime Minister Modi’s leadership for fostering closer ties in the 63-year relationship between Trinidad and Tobago and India, at both the bilateral and multilateral levels, and noted that his leadership has also resulted in strengthened relations between India and CARICOM.
Prime Minister Modi has also received several international and regional honours and awards.
