PM Persad-Bissessar Delivers Long-Awaited Export Licence To THA And People Of Tobago

The Studley Park Quarry now has the legal right to export its products.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC presented Tobago House of Assembly Chief Secretary Farley Augustine with a physical copy of the export licence during a Special Sitting of the Assembly on Tuesday, in commemoration of her first Official Visit to the island since winning the General Election on April 28th.

“I am happy that my government in just six months can deliver today something that you have long waited for. I am very happy, in just under six months, I have a very special document for Chief Secretary Farley and all of you in this THA.”

During her address to members of the Tobago House of Assembly at the Special Sitting, the Prime Minister acknowledged the importance of the document as a means for Tobago to generate foreign exchange.

“I am so happy if you can make some more money for the people of Tobago and for Trinidad in foreign exchange as you use this export licence to export. What is yours? The aggregate out of Studley Park. If you were doing that all this time, you might have been richer than some other places which will remain unnamed.”

In response, Chief Secretary Farley Augustine thanked the Prime Minister and the government for making this a priority for the people of Tobago.

“I’m happy that I can display and show a copy of the export licence for the Studley Park Quarry, Studley Park Enterprise Limited. Application made since 2022. And one will think, as we say in Tobago, that if you have a brother in the mango tree, you will eat. But sometimes you have to just depend on a stranger to give the kind gesture that your own will not give to you. On behalf of the people of Tobago, thank you very much.”

The Chief Secretary said he looks forward to strengthening the bonds of collaboration on matters that affect residents’ everyday lives.
