Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is encouraging continued prayer, charity, and love, beyond the season of the holy month Ramadan, reminding that a nation grounded in faith, remains strong.
She was speaking during Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations in Charlieville on Saturday morning.
“A country and a people that does not pray is a country and a people that is lost. So please continue your prayers. Please continue our charity. And please continue the love that you have for each other. May Allah grant you and your families good health, peace, and prosperity.”
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar urged Muslims to carry forward the values of faith, charity and unity, beyond the holy month of Ramadan.
She also praised the Muslim community for its discipline and devotion throughout the holy month, noting that their commitment to faith, family and service, plays a critical role in strengthening the social fabric of Trinidad and Tobago.
“Through this journey, your community, the Muslim community, continues to make a profound contribution to Trinidad and Tobago. Through your commitment to faith, family, and community, and through your generosity and service, you uplift lives and strengthen the bonds that hold our society together.”
Speaking with reporters after the event, Mrs. Persad-Bissessar also reflected on the blessings of peace and freedom to worship locally, even as many around the world face challenges observing the occasion.
“We are very blessed in Trinidad and Tobago that we had this large gathering here. Many people are so happy they could celebrate Eid. So let’s give praise and thanks to the Almighty in whatever way we do that we could celebrate this very auspicious occasion together in friendship.”
