PM Urges Safe And Responsible End To Carnival 2026

With the 2026 Carnival season drawing to a close, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC has issued a clear appeal to citizens and visitors to prioritise safety while making the most of the celebrations.

In a statement on Thursday, she noted that this year’s Carnival has been marked by strong participation, innovation and organisation and commended the National Carnival Commission (NCC) and the Ministry of Culture and Community Development for their leadership and execution throughout the season.

“Their efforts have strengthened the Carnival product, expanded access, and reinforced its cultural and economic value. Initiatives such as the highly successful Flava Village have created vibrant, inclusive spaces showcasing our culinary talent, artisans, entertainers, and small businesses, while enhancing the overall Carnival experience.”

The Prime Minister said as the country enters the final days of activity, including the Panorama Finals, Dimanche Gras, J’ouvert, and the Parade of Bands on Carnival Monday and Tuesday, authorities have put in place comprehensive measures to ensure the safety and security of all participants.

She urged all citizens and visitors to respect the rules governing Carnival activities and comply with the directions of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and other national security agencies deployed nationwide.

“Particular attention is being given to child safety, responsible alcohol use, licensed transport for masqueraders, and sober driving, including safe breath checks.”

Apart from the major hubs for Carnival celebrations, the Prime Minister confirmed that a strong, visible presence will be in place at community festivities, public beaches, rivers, residential communities, and other recreational spaces throughout the long weekend.

“State agencies responsible for beaches and riverside recreational areas have also been instructed to deploy increased lifeguard and safety personnel in anticipation of large public gatherings.”
