PM Warns Banks: Serve The People, Not Only The Elite

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has issued a stern warning to some of the nation’s banks, accusing them of serving the interests of the wealthy elite while neglecting ordinary citizens.

She highlighted instances of insider deals involving “one-percenters” and warned that these institutions are not acting in the best interests of the people. She made it clear that this kind of inequity will not be tolerated under her leadership.

The Prime Minister also condemned the People’s National Movement (PNM) for creating what she deemed to be a system of dependency and low-wage, make-work programmes that kept people in poverty while enriching a few.

She pledged to fill thousands of public sector vacancies, restart the Pointe-a-Pierre refinery, attract foreign investment to create meaningful employment, and equip the nation’s youth with laptops and a world-class education.
