Police Brace For Possible Reprisals After Murders In Eastern Division

Police are preparing for possible reprisals following the murders of DG Homes owner Danny Guerra on March 13th and one of the company’s employees on March 23rd, 2026.

This is according to Assistant Superintendent of Police Owie Russell at the TTPS Media Briefing on Wednesday.

“Our current assessment acknowledges that such acts of violence may, in certain circumstances, give
rise to further tensions or retaliatory behaviour. It is precisely this risk which has informed our operational posture. In direct response, the Senior Superintendent of the Eastern Division has adopted a heightened intelligence-led policing strategy under the framework of Operational Steady Guard.”

He described the strategy as deliberate, measured, and proactive.

“Its primary objectives are to prevent any escalation of violence, identify and apprehend persons of interest connected to these and other serious offences, and maintain stability, public safety, and territorial control across all communities within the Division.”

ASP Russell said coordinated operations have been ramped up across all communities in the Eastern district.

“Roving and strategic road checks along key road networks, including the Eastern Main Road and Naparima Mayaro Road. Targeted patrols within identified high-risk and priority areas. Search exercises conducted under the State of Emergency regulations.”

He said as a result of these sustained efforts, several individuals have been arrested for offences, including narcotics possession and outstanding warrants.
