One suspect is now dead and two hospitalised after a shootout with police officers.
According to reports, at approximately 10pm on Saturday May 25th, the Command Centre issued a report of a Honda Fit motor vehicle stolen at gunpoint in the Western Division.
Around 1:15am on Sunday, officers attached to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) spotted the vehicle proceeding east at the Trincity intersection. The officers initiated a pursuit and requested support from other units. Officers from the Northern Division Task Force (NDN TF), La Horquetta Police Station, and the Guard and Emergency Branch (GEB) responded.
The suspects later abandoned the vehicle along Reid Lane, Arima, and fled on foot. A chase ensued, and in the vicinity of Samaroo Village, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the pursuing officers. Police returned fire, resulting in two suspects sustaining gunshot wounds.
Both suspects were transported to the Arima Hospital. One was pronounced dead on arrival, while the other was treated and later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
Two firearms were recovered at the scene of the shooting.
The third suspect was apprehended a short time later in Samaroo Village by officers of the task force. He sustained a gunshot wound to the left leg and was taken to the Hospital for treatment.
