There will be a strong police presence in and around the Queen’s Park Savannah, the location of the One Caribbean Music Festival featuring dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel on Saturday, May 31st.
Gold Commander for the event, Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Garvin Henry, urged partygoers to obey the law and follow the guidelines for an incident-free event.
He said the aim of the TTPS is to ensure that all party-goers have a good time responsibly and to enforce the law.
“Concertgoers can look forward to a high police presence in and around the venue working to maintain order and protect all patrons.”
The concert Gold Commander reiterated that firearms are not permitted on concert grounds, and persons in possession of Firearm Users Licences are encouraged to lodge their weapons at the nearest police station before the concert.
ACP Henry also emphasised a zero tolerance policy toward the smoking of cannabis and other illegal substances.
“According to Section 7.5A of the Dangerous Drug Act, any person who smokes or uses cannabis or cannabis resin in a public place commits an offence and is liable upon summary conviction to a fine of $50,000. This zero tolerance also extends to the illegal use of other illegal substances, narcotics or drugs.”
Patrons are also reminded that glass bottles are strictly prohibited.
ACP Henry is encouraging patrons to work with the police to ensure that safety and order are maintained throughout the concert.
The highly publicised One Caribbean Music Festival will also feature Jamaican dancehall veteran Sizzla, Malie Don, Lady Lava, and many others.
