Prime Minister Announces Fete Ban At Hasely Crawford Stadium And Jean Pierre Complex

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC has announced that she has instructed Attorney General John Jeremie SC and Minister of Sport Phillip Watts to implement an immediate ban on the hosting of all fetes at the Hasely Crawford Stadium and the Jean Pierre Complex.

In a statement posted on her social media pages today, the Prime Minister noted that there will be exceptions for events taking place from the Thursday before Carnival Monday and Tuesday until the following Saturday. However, these events will be strictly monitored for duration.

“Additionally, all fetes and parties booked at Ministry of Sport facilities may begin no earlier than 12 noon and must end promptly at 10pm.”

The Prime Minister has also tasked the National Carnival Commission (NCC) with ensuring noise control at these events.

“The NCC has also been directed to engage with experienced acoustic engineers to properly design sound systems at their venues, ensuring that noise and vibrations from these events are effectively minimised for neighbouring communities.”

The Prime Minister’s announcement today comes just days after announcing a similar ban on fetes at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.

Mrs. Persad-Bissessar stated that her Government remains committed to balancing cultural preservation with community well-being while safeguarding the peace of citizens.
