Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has lauded the multicultural identity of Trinidad and Tobago while commemorating the 181st anniversary of Indian Arrival Day in Parliament. The Prime Minister reflected on the arrival of Indian indentured labourers in 1845, praised their contribution to national development, and called for continued unity among citizens. She also criticized the absence of Opposition members during the observance.
While Indian Arrival Day will be celebrated next week the Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar rose to give remarks on the occasion since the parliament was due to be prorogued last evening.
She paid tribute to the first Indian indentured labourers who arrived in Trinidad aboard the Fatel Razack 181 years ago.
Speaking in the House of Representatives, Prime Minister Persad Bissessar said the occasion remains an important reminder of the sacrifices made by Indian immigrants who came to Trinidad under the indentureship system.
