Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says there are moments in public life for which no one can ever be truly prepared.
Speaking at the funeral service for United National Congress (UNC) Councillor for Siparia East/San Francique, Romona Victor, the Prime Minister said the councillor was a beloved daughter of south Trinidad, and her kindness, courage, and service touched everyone she encountered.
“Siparia, San Francique, Penal, and the surrounding villages feel her absence deeply. Romona was far more than just a councillor. She was a steady, caring presence shaped by the warmth and values of the deep South.”
Councillor Victor and her husband, Rodney Ramsumair, were found dead in their Siparia home, in what police suspect may have been a murder-suicide.
Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar also remembered the person outside of the councillor, and her devotion to her family beyond politics and the space now created by her absence.
“Her loss profoundly affects me not just as a leader, not just as a woman, but as a mother. She was a child to me.”
