Proteas And White Ferns Notch Wins

South Africa and New Zealand secured vital wins today in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The Proteas women defeated Bangladesh by 7 wickets in Dubai, while the White Ferns defeated Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in Sharjah.

Bangladesh made 106 for three from their 20 overs thanks to 38 from Sobhana Mostary and 32 from captain Neegar Sultana Joty. Annerie Dercksen was the top South Africa bowler with 1/7.

Tazmin Brits and Anneke Bosh made light work of the total after losing skipper Laura Wolvart for 7. Brits fell for 42 and Bosch 25, but Marizanne Kapp 13 and Chloe Tryon 14 took them to them to victory in 17.2 overs. Bowling for Bangladesh Fahima Khatun took 2/19.

New Zealand kept their semi-finals hopes alive with an 8-wicket victory over Sri Lanka. Batting first, Sri Lanka managed to post 115/5 with 35 from captain Chamari Athapathu. Amelia Kerr had the golden arm for New Zealand taking 2 for 13.

Goergia Plimmer 53 and Amelia Kerr 34 not out wrapped up the game for the White Ferns in 17.3 overs to finish on 118/2.
