The Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) is set to introduce between 25 and 30 new bus routes across the country, targeting both rural and urban communities.
Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Eli Zakour noted that the Government has been working to repair buses and return them to service.
He said the new routes will be rolled out very soon, with the expansion expected to improve access to public transportation and provide greater coverage for commuters, particularly in communities that may currently have limited service.
“We did not inherit the best situation in PTSC, and nine and a half years of neglect cannot be fixed overnight and cannot be fixed in one year. PTSC is supposed to have roughly about 300 buses. We inherited 97 buses. Seventy-six routes at PTSC were discontinued — 76 routes. Since we came into office, we have been fixing the buses and putting them back on the road and we have also been increasing the routes as well. In the Central area, actually all throughout the country, we will be adding routes, and very soon we will be introducing about 25 or 30 routes to rural and urban areas.”
