Residents Support Stricter Limits On Carnival Parties At UDeCOTT Venues

There is growing support for increasing restrictions on the use of UDeCOTT venues for Carnival parties.

Several residents are now speaking about the difficulty they face with the noise pollution the parties cause.

Marcus Girdharrie, a resident of St. Joseph and former Councillor for Marabella South/Vistabella, says the area near the Brian Lara Cricket Academy comprises mainly elderly residents who are greatly disturbed by the noise of J’ouvert and other parties.

Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said parties seem to last throughout the entire night and cause upset for both the young and the old.

Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar had instructed that parties be halted at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. She later stated this applied to the Hasely Crawford Stadium and the Jean Pierre Complex within a specified window: from the Thursday before Carnival Monday and Tuesday until the Saturday after.
