Garbage collection woes in the City of San Fernando continue to frustrate residents.
The issue was once again raised at the Corporation’s Statutory Meeting on Wednesday by Councillor for Les Efforts West/La Romaine Rishi Balramsingh, who highlighted the inconsistency in the service.
“The garbage contractors are still coming whenever they feel. All different times, all different days. The schedule is not set. Some weeks they pass two days, some weeks they pass one day, some weeks they pass three days. It’s still not as the schedule is supposed to be.”
In response, Mayor of San Fernando Robert Parris acknowledged the widespread complaints and called for improved communication between the Corporation and the contractors.
“This issue is something that is not just in the Les Efforts West area. A number of residents throughout the city have been calling the Mayor’s office, making complaints about the irregularity of the garbage being picked up. Even within the inner city, in the Les Efforts East area, there is an issue. And Madame CEO, I think that you and I had a discussion last year with two of the contractors, or was it one? Might have been one of them, right? We had a discussion with one of the contractors, and I think that it’s time that we actually communicate better and solve this issue.”
