San Fernando Hosts Early Dimanche Gras-like Presentation And Calypso Competition

San Fernando patrons were treated to their own Dimanche Gras-like presentation a few days early, with the City’s King and Queen of Carnival portrayals alongside a lively calypso competition.

The usual traffic flow was disrupted outside City Hall on Harris Promenade, as the San Fernando City Corporation blocked off the area to stage the presentation.

Thursday’s event saw seven Kings and six Queens competing, while fifteen calypsonians vied for the Southern City’s Calypso Monarch title.

San Fernando Mayor Robert Parris said he believes the City’s Carnival 2025 presentation will be an improvement on previous years.

“We anticipate a bumper Carnival. We anticipate a lot of interest, especially in our J’ouvert. Our J’ouvert is our marquee product in San Fernando when it comes to Carnival and this year promises to be an even bigger J’ouvert. We have people from all over coming in. We have a lot of celebrities having their bands.”

Mayor Parris said the results of the three competitions, along with the distribution of the prizes, will take place on Fantastic Friday at City Hall.
