A game-high of thirty-four points from Kevin Sargant guided the Ansa Stars to a ten-point victory in the National Basketball Club Championship. Both teams met in First Division action on Friday at the Southern Regional Indoor Sport Arena. First Division action in the National Basketball Club Championship hosted by the National Basketball Federation of Trinidad and Tobago continued as Quarters, coached by Clint Wilson, and Ansa Stars met in Pleasantville on Friday.
We begin with Ansa Stars holding a narrow 27-26 lead in the second quarter at the Southern Regional Indoor Sport Arena, a lead that didn’t last long thanks to Quarters captain Richard Julien, who tied the game with this layup. The men in orange would go on to establish the lead as the clock wound down in the second period. However, a late trip to the free-throw line by Kevin Sargant saw the number nine score his three free throws to send his team into the half trailing by just a single point.
The Quarters players were clearly on a mission after the restart to quiet the high-scoring Kevin Sargant. But that opened the door for the likes of De Leon Brown to get on the score sheet. In no time, Quarters were the ones doing the chasing as Ansa took a lead of 39-37.
The highly experienced Adrian Joseph stretched the score with a beautiful three-pointer, along with scoring from the line. Ansa Stars were clearly in the ascendancy, ending the third quarter with a commanding 60-47 lead. It was a low-scoring start to the fourth, with Ansa restricting the men in orange, despite the best efforts from Ako Pascall.
The Quarters number thirteen continued to struggle as Sargent piled up the points. Kevin Sargant would go on to top-score with thirty-four as Ansa Stars left Pleasantville with a 75-65 victory.
