Cabinet has agreed to award 105 national scholarships for 2025, reflecting an increase over the previous year, which saw 103 awarded.
This was announced by Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training, Professor Prakash Persad, who also revealed the two President’s Medals recipients from Naparima Girls’ High School and Bishop Anstey High School/Trinity College East.
Speaking in the Lower House, he noted that the expanded distribution includes 47 open scholarships and 58 additional scholarships, with an estimated cost of over TT$35 million.
“The annual expenditure in respect of the award of these 105 scholarships is estimated at $35,800,000 Trinidad and Tobago dollars. Congratulations are extended to Elizabeth Singh and Aaliyah Serette, and to all the 2025 winners. The Government, the Ministry, the nation, their parents, families and schools are surely proud of these achievements.”
He also reminded students that their performance during tertiary studies would be closely monitored.
“I want to remind these scholars that their performance during the period of their studies will be monitored by the Scholarship Department of the Ministry, and therefore they are kindly urged to maintain their cumulative grade point average at the required and requested level.”
