A second suspect in the kidnapping of Mrs. Jankie Satie Karim has been killed by police.
Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro confirmed that following Mrs. Karim’s successful rescue in East Trinidad, a team of officers proceeded to a home at Old Piarco Road, where officers were confronted by an armed suspect.
“In keeping with the TTPS use of force policy, the officers discharged their service-issued firearms in response to the imminent threat. The suspect sustained injuries and was conveyed to the Arima Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”
No officers or members of the public were injured.
Commissioner Guevarro said officers recovered and seized one Glock 19 pistol with ammunition at the scene.
“My officers and I are continuing to work throughout the night in an effort to curtail the identified threat to national security posed by these individuals who have forged themselves into this criminal syndicate. At this point in time, the leaders of their group remain imprisoned at a secure location where their communication is stymied.”
Mrs. Karim was abducted in front of her husband and son from the family’s Toyota Hilux on July 13th in Curepe by armed assailants. She was rescued by police around 6:30pm on Monday in Rampanalgas, along the Toco Main Road. During her rescue, an armed male suspect was shot during an exchange with police. He died at hospital.
