The Bill titled “An Act to Amend the Prime Minister’s Pension Act” was passed on Monday in the Senate.
This follows a debate on the Bill by the senators, who took turns to argue their positions, ultimately leading to the approval of the Bill.
Senate President Wade Mark stated: “Honourable Senators, as a result of the division, 20 members voted in favour of the Bill, no members voted against, and there were 10 abstentions. The Bill is approved.”
Attorney General John Jeremie defended the Bill, which the opposition argued was targeted at an individual, stating that the merit of this Act is aimed at the good order of the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
“My friend says that this law affects one person, but it is not written in that way, and the law in Ferguson was not written in that way. It was written to cover every person, including x or y or z or others who fell into that category and who might come to be in this position in the future.”
