This country’s only differently abled Senator is asking the Government to consider people from her community.
Independent Senator Alicia Lalite-Ettienne was speaking during the debate on the Law Reform, Zones of Special Operations, Special Security and Community Development Measures Bill.
She told the Upper House that the Bill, or those who are enforcing it, must consider the differently abled, especially if their caretakers are caught outside of the zones during lockdown.
She spoke of her own situation, saying: “It could happen to any person. It could happen to any disabled person, someone with a disability. And what happens? Would we get some sort, would he be able to get some sort pass or escort to come to me? I am locked down and I have to come to Parliament. What would happen?”
