Seven Held, Firearms, Ammunition And Cannabis Seized in Exercises

Seven suspects were arrested and quantities of firearms, ammunition and narcotics seized during ongoing State of Emergency operations in the North Eastern and Western Divisions yesterday.

In the first incident, officers of the Morvant Criminal Investigations Department and Police Station, conducted an exercise between 11am and 1pm on Wednesday, August 27th, 2025, during which they proceeded to Ninth Avenue, Barataria, where they conducted a search of a bushy area.

The search resulted in the discovery one rifle, two magazines and eleven rounds of ammunition.

Meanwhile, NED officers, with the assistance of the Emergency Response Patrol and the Task Force, were conducting checks in the Tenth Avenue district, when they stopped and searched a 22-year-old Morvant man.

The suspect who was found to be in possession of a pistol loaded with a magazine containing eight rounds of ammunition was arrested in connection with the find.

The exercises were spearheaded by W/Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Guy-Alleyne, Supt. Birch, ASP (Ag.) Callender and Insp. (Ag.) Ramsingh.

In the Western Division, officers conducted an exercise between 3:15am and 8am yesterday in the West End and Maraval districts, which resulted in the discovery of 1.2 kilogrammes of cannabis and the arrest of a 66-year-old Diego Martin man.

The officers also arrested a 23-year-old Maraval man and an 18-year-old woman for possession of one pistol loaded with a magazine containing 16 rounds of ammunition.

And, a search of a motor vehicle parked along Toyer Street, Patna Village, resulted in the discovery of one revolver loaded with five rounds of ammunition.

The exercises were conducted by officers of the West End and Maraval Police Stations, with the assistance of the Western Division (WD) CID, the Western Division Gang and Intelligence Unit, the WD Task Force, the Guard and Emergency Branch, the Inter-Agency Task force, and the Canine Unit.

In the Eastern Division, officers responding to a report of Robbery with Violence in the Mayaro district, yesterday afternoon, arrested three suspects within minutes of them robbing a 40-year-old delivery driver of a quantity of cash at gunpoint.

Excellent coordination and diligent investigations resulted in officers of the Mayaro CID locating and pursuing a Nissan Note with three suspects along the Manzanilla Road.

With the assistance of officers of the Manzanilla Police Post, the vehicle was intercepted and three male suspects, all of Arima, arrested.

A quantity of cash and a revolver loaded with one round of ammunition were recovered from the vehicle.

Investigations are ongoing.
