SEWA TT Calls For Greater Blood Donations Amid Disaster Preparedness Push

The recent deadly earthquakes in Venezuela have highlighted the need for disaster preparedness.

As such, SEWA International Trinidad and Tobago is renewing its call for more voluntary blood donations to help the country achieve its annual target of 40,000 units of blood.

Vice President of SEWA TT, Vishi Beharry, says an important part of disaster preparedness includes maintaining an adequate national blood supply.

That message was at the heart of SEWA TT’s 6K Fun Run on Sunday, an initiative aimed at raising awareness about voluntary blood donation to achieve the annual target.

“We want to emphasise the point that if T&T were to end up in a similar situation, there will obviously be a need for an increased amount of blood donations or increased requirement of blood because we are currently under the national requirement. So our goal here today is to increase awareness about blood donation and encourage people to donate blood so that we can be prepared for any disaster that may come.”

President of SEWA TT, Revan Teelucksingh, noted that increasing the country’s blood reserves cannot be achieved by individuals alone.

He is calling on businesses and institutions to partner with SEWA TT in hosting blood drives.

“SEWA TT will be coordinating many blood drives throughout the year, and we invite companies to contact us at 333-SEWA or admin@sewatt.org where you could reach us and we will help you coordinate a blood drive.”

Held under the theme “Run with Purpose: Support Blood Donation”, the 6K Fun Run attracted scores of participants, all united by a common goal: raising awareness about the life-saving importance of blood donation.
