Six Relocated Massahood Village Families Return Home

Six families who were temporarily relocated from their Fyzabad homes earlier this week due to an oil leak at Massahood Village have returned home.

Friday’s update from State-owned Heritage Petroleum notes the families were relocated to Paria Suites Hotel as a precautionary measure. Heritage says 85% of its clean-up work has been completed and that the remaining rehabilitation works, includes minor infrastructure repairs, cleaning, sanitising, and power washing of affected areas.

The company says in keeping with standard practice, the Serpentarium is also on-site to treat with any impact on wildlife. It also notes that extra precaution was taken to install danger signs in very conspicuous areas in addition to those installed prior to the incident to further demarcate Heritage’s pipelines and right of ways.
