The La Reine Rive Self-Expression and Talent Finals, part of the larger Best Village Trophy Competition organised by the Prime Minister’s office was disrupted on Saturday when a contestant set off smoke bombs on stage during their performance.
According to a statement released today by the Ministry of Culture and Community Development, Red Cross personnel and Ministry officials who were present at the venue immediately implemented safety measures to protect all attendees, patrons, and other contestants. No injuries were reported in the preliminary accounts of the incident.
Minister of Culture and Community Development Michelle Benjamin acknowledged the seriousness of the situation, stating that the health, safety, and well-being of all participants remains the Ministry’s “utmost priority, at all times.”
Both the Prime Minister’s Best Village Competition officials and the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts have launched preliminary investigations to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. The Ministry of Culture and Community Development indicated it is closely monitoring the investigative process.
“Further details will be shared once available, as transparency and accountability remain central to the Ministry’s operations,” the statement read.
The Ministry expressed gratitude to event staff, emergency personnel, and patrons who assisted during the incident and helped ensure everyone’s safety. Officials also thanked stakeholders for their patience as the matter continues to be addressed.
