Socadrome Sees Slight Shift As New Rules Reshape Carnival Events

Tribe Carnival’s “Socadrome” has been shifted for the first time since its inception over a decade ago.

It will now be moved from one of the sporting arenas inside the Jean Pierre Complex to a new area on the National Stadium’s compound, in keeping with the new regulations for national sporting venues.

In November 2025, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar announced sweeping restrictions on events at these venues, affecting the way entertainment entities operate within the now-regulated spaces.

Band leader and Creative Director of The Lost Tribe, Valmiki Maharaj, said that the Socadrome is a space created for masqueraders to enjoy the release of the stage without the competition element. He shared further details on the “Socadrome’s” relocation.

“Socadrome exists, right now, in the space that is close to the Stadium and the Complex, as we know it, and has shifted, as you said, slightly, from inside the complex to just outside, between the Stadium and the Complex. As a masquerade myself, as a band leader, what I love most about Socadrome is that, just similar to our other stages is that it’s a space that has its own characteristics.”

The government’s expanded crackdown on noise pollution outlined time brackets for events at Ministry of Sport facilities, between 12 noon and 10pm. While some of the time restrictions are exempted from the Thursday preceding Carnival until the following Saturday, the area permitted for event activities still falls within the restrictions.
