SouthSide Elite Clinch Play-Off Spot With 60–55 Win Over Togetherness

With two wins from two matches played in the Heritage Pool, SouthSide Elite were just one victory away from clinching a play-off spot in the Legacy Basketball Invitational.

In round three at the Sport & Physical Education Centre at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, SouthSide took on fourth-placed Togetherness.

It was a lively contest at the Sport & Physical Education Centre at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine.

Togetherness were hunting for a second win, while SouthSide Elite were in pursuit of a third victory and play-off qualification, as the two teams went head-to-head in round three action of the Legacy Basketball Invitational.

We pick up the action in the third quarter, with SouthSide holding a slim two-point advantage at 46–44.

In the fourth, Jason Friday held on to possession before Jelani Blackett took control and scored a beautiful mid-range shot.

Togetherness kept things tight, responding through a powerful drive to the basket from Tyler Hyndman, followed by a smooth corner three from Zinedine Durham.

With the score locked at 51 apiece, Blessings Brewster gave Togetherness a one-point lead from the free-throw line.

Togetherness maintained their lead, with Hyndman withstanding the contact and scoring in what would be a fruitful evening for the number four.

But with the team in grey holding a 55–51 lead, Jason Friday cut the deficit in half, with just under five minutes remaining.

Moving forward, SouthSide would establish a five-point lead. The SouthSide duo of Jason Friday and Leshaun Alfred went on to restrict their opponents, who were unable to get out of their own corner.

Alfred would later toss the ball into the air to signal the final buzzer, as SouthSide Elite sealed a 60–55 victory and secured their play-off spot in St Augustine.
