SRP Charged With Misbehaviour In Public Office

A Special Reserve Police Officer is due to appear at the Arima Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 3rd May, 2022, after he was charged with two counts of misbehaviour in public office yesterday.

No. 7467 SRP JOHN BLACKMANN was charged with one count of misbehaviour in public office to wit doing an act tending to pervert the course of public justice to wit making a false entry in the Northern Division Task Force-South diary, and with one count of misbehaviour in public office to wit trafficking of genus cannabis commonly called marijuana, following the advice of Director of Public Prosecutions Mr. Roger Gaspard, SC.

Police reports indicate that on Wednesday 27th April 2022, the accused and another police officer, both attached to the Facilities Management Unit were detailed for mobile patrol duty in the Maloney Police District when they allegedly deviated from their area of patrol. The officers allegedly met a grey Nissan Frontier vehicle in the Northern Division and both vehicles proceeded to a townhouse situated in the Greenvale Park, La Horquetta area. The police officers allegedly gained entry into an apartment which was unoccupied at the time and stole a quantity of fully grown marijuana trees and other items. Some of the marijuana trees were placed in the other vehicle and the remainder in the police vehicle. The accused then lodged a quantity of the trees at the La Horquetta Police Station and made an entry in the Northern Division Task Force South Diary and submitted a form for its destruction. SRP Blackmann also allegedly dropped off some of the marijuana trees at his residence.

On Thursday 28th April 2022, an exercise was conducted by the Professional Standards Bureau, which was spearheaded by Woman Senior Superintendent Suzzette Martin, coordinated by Supt Montrichard and supervised by Inspector Sylvan, and included Sgt (Ag.) Mohammed, Cpl (Ag.) Smith and Cpl (Ag.) Joefield which led to the arrest of SRP Blackmann. A search warrant was executed at the residence of SRP Blackmann and a quantity of marijuana trees was found and seized. All of the marijuana trees, inclusive of the trees lodged at the La Horquetta Police Station, carried an estimated street value of $694,166.
