One suspect has been arrested following an intelligence-led sting operation conducted yesterday, October 7th, 2025, in the Curepe district.
Between the hours of 11am and 1pm, officers of the St. Joseph Criminal Investigations Department (CID), acting on intelligence information received, executed a targeted operation in response to a report of Larceny Trick. The operation was spearheaded by ACP Singh, Snr. Supt Gift, ASP Bharath, Insp Pierre, and was directly supervised by Sgt (Ag.) Joseph-Perez, along with Cpl Stevenson, Cpl Persad, and PC Roberts.
The investigation stems from a report made on October 3rd, 2025, by a female victim who alleged she was defrauded of $4,800.00 by a woman claiming to be an insurance agent. The suspect, using the alias Shania Hinds, falsely stated that the payment was required to fast-track the processing of a lapsed life insurance policy for the victim’s deceased boyfriend.
The victim was instructed to meet a male accomplice at Royal Castle, Curepe, where she handed over the money to the man who posed as a representative of the alleged insurance agent.
Following further communication from the suspect on October 7th, demanding an additional $5,000.00, the victim contacted police. A sting operation was promptly arranged, which led to the successful arrest of the male suspect believed to be involved in the fraudulent scheme. He was arrested at the scene in Curepe and positively identified by the victim as the individual who collected the initial payment.
The suspect of Foster Road, Sangre Grande, is currently assisting police with ongoing investigations.
Investigations are continuing.
Members of the public are reminded to exercise caution when engaging in financial transactions and to verify the identity of individuals claiming to represent institutions.
