From Police Post to police station. The St. Mary’s Police Station has reopened, providing much needed safety in Moruga.
The conversion of the St. Mary’s Police Post is being hailed a gift to residents. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Police Commissioner, Allister Guevarro referenced Prophet Benjamin’s song ‘coming from Moruga’, noting that the station will offer a heightened police presence to curb criminal activity.
Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander said while he is unable to state why the police station was closed down and turned into a police post, the reopening will significantly benefit the community.
“Take this opportunity build on it develop good relationship, with the Police Officers and you will understand then that we cannot be defeated at all, they cannot penetrate us they cannot defeat us we’ll stand with you all the time.”
Minister of Works and Infrastructure, Jearlean John said the station will add meaningful value to the community.
“It is intended to bolster strategy to better protect communities, saving them from an infiltration of criminal activities. Ladies and gentlemen, officers, I view the fight against crime as extending beyond arrest, and enforcement alone, those who listen to me know that that is true, it requires reaching into communities early, understanding the root causes and reaching people before negative influences take hold.”
Member of Parliament for Moruga Tableland, Michelle Benjamin welcomed the Police Station.
“I ask for the return of the task force, he said I am doing much better than that so let’s give him a round of applause.”
The approximately 500 residents in the area were
encouraged to continue working in partnership with law enforcement to build a safer space and resilient community.
