Pan Trinbago proudly hosted the inaugural Steelpan Fusion Fest: A Youth Steel Orchestra Panyard Crawl, a ground-breaking youth empowerment initiative held under the patronage of the President of Pan Trinbago, Mrs. Beverley Ramsey-Moore. The event was held from June 12–22, 2026, and brought together young Steelpan musicians, community leaders, cultural stakeholders, and supporters in a vibrant celebration of talent, innovation, resilience, and the enduring strength of the Steelpan movement.
Through its Youth Arm, Pan Trinbago facilitated the registration of 33 Youth Steel Orchestras nationwide. Of these, 31 Youth Steel Orchestras participated in the inaugural Steelpan Fusion Fest: A Youth Steel Orchestra Panyard Crawl. Over the course of the initiative, Pan Trinbago visited 31 communities across its four regions: Eastern, Northern, South/Central, and Tobago, including 27 communities in Trinidad and 4 in Tobago. The programme engaged more than 800 young Steelpan players, showcasing the remarkable talent, creativity, innovation, and resilience of the next generation of Steelpan musicians.
As the first event of its kind, Steelpan Fusion Fest was designed not only to provide a unique cultural and educational experience but also to demonstrate the resilience, growth, and sustainability of the national Steelpan movement. Patrons were afforded the opportunity to participate in an authentic Steelpan Panyard crawl, visiting multiple communities and experiencing first-hand the energy, creativity, and community spirit that continue to define the Steelpan culture.
The event showcased Youth Steel Orchestras from across Trinidad and Tobago performing an exciting repertoire of contemporary 21st-century music, seamlessly fused with the distinctive sounds of the Steelpan. The performances highlighted the versatility of the national musical instrument and demonstrated how young musicians are embracing innovation while preserving the rich traditions of the movement.
Steelpan Fusion Fest forms part of Pan Trinbago’s ongoing commitment to human capital development, youth empowerment, and community engagement, creating meaningful opportunities for young people to develop their musical talents while strengthening leadership skills, discipline, teamwork, and cultural pride.
The event continues to create new pathways for youth development while strengthening the foundation of the Steelpan movement for future generations.
Speaking on the significance of the event, President of Pan Trinbago, Mrs. Beverley Ramsey Moore, highlighted the importance of investing in young people and creating innovative Steelpan experiences that inspire future generations.
“Steelpan Fusion Fest is more than a musical event. It is a testament to the resilience of our movement and the limitless potential of our youth. It celebrates cultural identity, innovation, and community while creating opportunities for young people to excel through the arts. By connecting our youth orchestras and communities, we are strengthening the future of Steelpan and empowering the next generation of cultural ambassadors.”
