Minister of Rural Development and Local Government, Faris Al-Rawi, has repeated his call for citizens to support Property Tax as a means to help maintain the infrastructure in their communities.
The Minister made his plea at the opening of the Douglas Road, Barrackpore Muslim Cemetery.
Acknowledging that there were some in the audience that did not agree with the tax in its present form, the Minister highlighted what the Government’s position was concerning Local Government Reform. Minister Al-Rawi said the visible contributions that would come from Property Tax is more than fixing roads and box drains. He said his Ministry is presently busy with what he calls local economic development.
The Local Government Reform Bill was updated to give Regional Corporations the power to use monies allocated from property taxes.
