Sweet 100.1FM and Blow Mano Blow Team Up For Carnival 2027 To Honour The Mighty Sparrow

Sweet 100.1 FM and Blow Mano Blow Carnival Mas Band have teamed up to honour calypso legend Dr Slinger Francisco, The Mighty Sparrow, with a special 2027 presentation celebrating the life and legacy of the cultural icon.

Sweet 100.1 FM will be a section partner for the band’s 2027 Carnival presentation, To Birdie with Love, which pays tribute to the Mighty Sparrow.

At the pre-launch, a special presentation of portraits of the cultural icon was made to those near and dear to his heart.

Sweet 100.1 FM’s very own Ria Roopchandsingh explained the gesture, noting that the Gift of Love was a way of thanking The Mighty Sparrow for his enormous contribution to the culture.

“It’s basically a way of saying thank you, thank you, to Sparrow for oh so much music that he has produced and sung and, not to mention, acted out as well, goodness gracious. The stories, the laughter, the memories and the legacy that continue to inspire new generations; he is definitely one who started things off for Calypso in Trinidad and Tobago.”

Sparrow’s daughter, Karen Francisco, is hopeful that her father’s legacy will live on as a great inspiration.

“I always say that I am truly inspired by the fact that he has always given of his talent, simply because that’s what he does, and it has impacted all of the Caribbean, all of the world, so just take that as your inspiration for anything that you do that this man has done that simply by being himself.”

Described as Sparrow’s musical daughter, Natasha Wilson said the “Birdie” was satisfied with the band’s presentation.

“When I came to Trinidad, Dad had a conversation with the team about this whole project they are doing, and he was very, very, very excited and very pleased, and he loved the section because he did see it. I had him on video and he did give his input.”

The Mighty Sparrow, also known as the Calypso King of the World, continues to shape the calypso art form, storytelling and Caribbean culture, inspiring new generations of musicians and music lovers.
